Origin/meaning

The downward placed anchor recalls the incarnation. It is both the cross and the faith that allows people to survive the storm. The color red reminds us that a Christian is ready to give his life even to the point of blood.

The White-tailed tropicbird is shown upwards and recalls that the incarnation of Jesus gives the world the Holy Spirit. This is symbolized by the bird, normally depicted as a dove, but the tropicbird is a very common local bird.

The base represents Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean. The green of the island symbolizes hope for the island, the blue of the sea and the white of a cloud are the colors of Mary.
