Origin/meaning

Grünsfeld received city rights around 1320 from King Ludwig der Bayer. The oldest known seal of the city dates from 1386 and shows already the combination of a large fleur-de-lis with two small shields. The small shield with the bars shows the arms of the Counts of Rieneck, who ruled the area in the 13th century. The origin and meaning of the other elements is not known.
