Wappen von Grebenau

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were probably designed in the early 17th century, as city rights were granted in 1605. The man already appeared in the oldest known seal, dating from 1624. The man is a canting figure, Greben (medieval militiaman), in a 17th century uniform. All later seals and images how the same composition, although the shape and colours of the figure have changed regularly during the centuries. The above colours are the historical colours used since the 17th century.
