GREIZ (GRZ)

State : Thüringen
Additions : 1993 Gera-Land, Zeulenroda

Greiz.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on June 19, 1997.

The golden lion and the crane are derived from the arms of the Lords of Reuss, who ruled the largest part of the district for many centuries. A small part of the district belonged to one of the Duchies of Sachsen, hence the base of the shield, which shows a simplified version of the arms of Sachsen.

From 1991-1997 the district use dthe arms above, which were never officially granted. The elements are the same as described above.
