Official blazon

I svart fält en gyllene bock med röd beväring.

Origin/meaning

The goat was already used as a symbol for the province in 1560.

In the book "Signs, signs and symbols" by John Foley it is mentioned that "Since the goat is very hardy and likes to climb mountains, it thrived well in the mountainous Hälsingland. In the 1500s goat herding was important for the province's livelihood."
