English Blue; issuant from clouds in chief a thunderbolt between six lightning flashes gold.

Origin/meaning

The badge was approved on 25 April 1939.

From the arms of William Thompson, Baron Kelvin (1824-1907). Inventor of the sounding machine and mariner's compass. He was also chief electrician for the underwater cables laid worldwide.
