HENRICUS CORNELIUS DE WIT

Born: July 21, 1922
Deceased: March 8, 2002

Prelate of San Jose de Antique, 1962-1982; Titular Bishop of Amisus

Arms (crest) of Henricus Cornelius de Wit
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are aligned with the motto, Ut vitam habeant (That they may have life). At the time the bishop was appointed as prefect the area was rather poor (economically and religiously). The fish and bread basket are religious symbols, but also indicate the importance of fisheries and food (rice not bread) for the people. The sea and mountain refer to the landscape of the area.

The cross is a generic Christian symbol, with a star for St. Mary and a lily for St. Joseph, the patron saint of the diocese.

Initially the cross and lily were placed beside the cross, but in the final design they were placed in the cross.
