Origin/meaning
Herdersem first received arms on April 29, 1819. These arms showed a golden field with a red bar, charged with three stars, and accompanied by three merles. The origin or meaning of these arms is not known.
The second arms were granted on August 11, 1843.
These arms are based on the 18th century seal of the local council. The arms are derived from the arms of the Valdez family. In 1620 Don Gaspard de Valdez, a Spanish nobleman, acquired the estate of Herdersem. His family remained in possession of the estate until the late 18th century.
