Wappen von Hersbruck

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms date from medieval times, the colours were determined latest in 2006.

The oldest seal dates from 1314 and shows a ram on a bridge with some towers. The bridge (Brücke) is canting. All seals until the 16th century show the ram and bridge, but not always with the towers. Only between 1353 and 1373, when the city was a possession of the Kings of Bohemia, the buck was replaced by the lion of Bohemia. In the 16th century the ram was replaced by the canting deer (Hirsch). The colour of the shield was red until 1818 when it was replaced by the blue of Bayern.
