The arms were granted in 1966.
The arms were granted in 1966.

The arms are a combination of the arms of the two major parts of the area, the upper part are the arms of Franken (Franconia), the lower part the arms of [[Sachsen]]. The major part of the district belonged to the Bishops of Würzburg, who used the old arms of Franken. Part of the district was part of Sachsen-Coburg (the area around Königsberg) and became part of Bavaria in 1920.
