Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A shield-shaped device with arced scroll attached above the shield, 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width consisting of a scarlet shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, on which are two white diagonal stripes extending from the viewer’s upper left to lower right, overall on a white disc a red poinsettia seed yellow. On a scarlet scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) white border, the inscription “HOLLYWOOD” in white letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves red over white, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced red scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.


Origin/meaning

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 8 August 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
