Iffezheim
IFFEZHEIM
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : 1972 Rastatt
German | In Silber ein gestürzter schwarzer Anker, beheftet mit einem schräglinks liegenden roten Ruder. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms show an anchor and rudder as symbol for the sailing on the river Rhine, which was of great importance to the town. The symbols already appear on a seal dating from 1616.
The second known seal of Iffezheim dates from the 19th century and shows some strange symbol in a oval shield. It is probably the old village sign. In 1900 the municipality applied for historical arms and the State Archives proposed the present arms. The council approved the arms in April 1901.
