Origin/meaning

Tinctures are field wavy Argent and Vert enschuteon Vert charged with a roundel (later changed to Argent a Cross of the Order of Christ). Brodure Gules. The Cross of the Order of Christ symbolises the Order's importance to the colonization of Madeira. The Waves and the shield indicates the location of Madeira in the Atlantic. The Crest symbolise the Soldiers who defends Madeira.

The Motto translates as "For Honour and for the Fatherland".

The Designation was later changed to Military Zone of Madeira.
