Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 20, 1999.

The field is made up of snowflakes, symbol of the fact that the village is far above the Arctic Circle in the permafrost area. The chief symbolises the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).

The tools are associated with geological exploration; the village is a mining village. The torch provides light in the Polar nights and also symbolises a borehole for gas into the permafrost. The flame is a symbol of the wealth the oil and gas brings to the region.
