(personal arms) : van azuur met een rechtsgewende wassenaar van zilver en een schildhoofd van sabel beladen met drie linkerschuinbalken in goud. Wapenspreuk Dominus mihi adjutor

Origin/meaning

The personal arms of the bishop are based on the arms of Ameland, where the Archbishop was born. The gold in the arms also symbolises the rays of the sun, as an allegory for God, and a moon as a symbol for the Catholic Church.

The motto is taken from Psalm 117.
