The first quarter shows the arms of Guillaume-Marie van Zuylen, bishop of Liège to whom he was appointed as auxiliary bishop. The second quarter shows two hazel trees, taken from the arms of the city of Hasselt. The grapes refer to the city of Tongeren, where the bishop was born.
