The arms are derived from the arms of the medieval Lords of Jungholtz, who became extict in the 14<sup>th</sup> century. They are first mentioned in a quarrel in 1220 over the ownership of the church of Herrlisheim with the Hattstatt family; it involved a certain "Conrad de Jungholtz".
