Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 24, 1954.

The arms show a birch tree, as the region has a lot of birch forest.

The arms were selected from initially 49 proposals in a national competition. A further selection was made in 1952 and finally the above arms were chosen from a final selection of five designs. Three other designs are shown below.
