• (1946) Van sabel met een leeuw van goud, genageld en getongd van keel, het schild geplaatst voor een Sint-Niklaas, rechtstaande, met een stralenkroon getooid, gemijterd, gekleed met de bisschoppelijke gewaden, zegenend met de opgeheven rechterhand en houdende in de linkerhand den naar buiten gewenden staf, met, rechts aan zijn voeten geplaatst, het pekelvat in den vorm van een kuip, waaruit de drie naakte kinderen oprijzen, den heilige bekijkend, alles van goud.
• (1988) In sabel een leeuw van goud, geklauwd en getongd van keel. Het schild getopt met een uitkomende Sint-Niklaas van goud.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 1, 1988.

The arms show the lion of Brabant and the patron saint. The composition was first used on a seal knwon from the 14^th century. In 1292 the Dukes of Brabant established the Estate of Kapelle and in the 14^th century a local council was mentioned. Several families have held the estate, but the seals and arms always showed the lion of Brabant.

The old seals only showe dthe saint behind the shield, and not as elaborated a son the 1946 arms. The arms were thus adjusted in 1988.

The previous arms were granted on October 30, 1946.

These arms showed the same composition, but a larger image of the saint and the three children in a barrel that he saved.
