Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 29, 1963 and confirmed on October 13, 1993.

The arms are derived from the arms of Ekeren. Kapellen belonged to Ekeren until 1801. Behind the shield stands St. James, the patron saint of the town. He holds in his hand a small church, symbolising the Hoogenschoot chapel in the municipality.
