KATZENTHAL

Département : Haut-Rhin

Blason de Katzenthal/Arms (crest) of Katzenthal
Official blazon
French
  • (fr) D'azur à la lune en décours versée d'argent sommée d'une croisette pattée d'or.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on a seal of the village dating from 1659. The current colours are used since the late 17th century as the arms are listed in Hozier (see below). Only in the 19th century also a version with other colours was used; both versions are listed by Schœnhaupt below.

The meaning is not clear; the crescent may derived from the arms of Ingersheim, as the village was part of the Ingersheim parish until 1690.
