Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on November 16, 1971.

The two churches are canting elements (Kirch = kerk = church), for Aldekerk and Nieukerk. The two roses are the old symbol of Geldern and represent Eyll and Stenden, which were possessions of the dukes of Geldern.
