KOBLENZ (KO)

State : Rheinland-Pfalz

Koblenz.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on January 18, 1946.

The arms show the merging of the Mosel and Rhein rivers in the city of Koblenz at the Deutsches Eck. The crown indicates the fact that in Rhens the Council of Electors often joined. This group of nobles choose the German Kings and Emperors.

On July 22, 1929 the district was granted different arms. Instead of the crown the Prussian eagle was placed above the point. As Prussia ceased to exist after the Second World War the eagle was replaced by the crown. (unfortunately I have no image of these arms)
