Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the city dates from 1738 and showa a lute between two flowers. The lute (Laute) is a canting symbol. In the 19^th century the city adopted the St. Lawrence bell (Laurentiusglöcke) as it arms. The bell dates from 1512 and shows St. Lawrence and the grill on which he was killed.
