Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 16, 1838 and again on December 8, 1992.
Leuze already was a city in the 13th century. The oldest known seals of the city, used until the 17th century, showed the arms of the Châtillon family (three pales of vair and a fleur-de-lis in chief), lords of the city until the 15th century.
Somewhere during the 16th century the city started to use new arms, a blue lion in a silver field with billets. The origin or meaning of these arms is not known, they are not derived from the arms of any of the families that ruled the city. These arms were officially approved in 1838.
