Official blazon

Vert three pallets wavy argent, a cross pattee convexed within annulet or, with the CREST: - A figure of Patrick Sarsfield, the right hand grasping a sword, the left hand outstretched and pointing, all proper and with the MOTTO:- Cuimhnigh ar Luimneach.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 24, 1976.

The principal colours of the arms are green and white, the sporting colours of the county. The Celtic cross is for the many churches of the County and can be seen as the city surrounded by the countryside.

The crest depicts Patrick Sarsfield Irish commander at the Siege of Limerick.

The motto "Remember Limerick" was used by Irish soldiers fighting in continental armies, and refers to the English breaking of the treaty of Limerick.
