Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 22. 1989.

Virgin St. Mary of the Lights is the patron saint of the municipality. The tower is an image of an old fortress, known as El Torreón, having existed in old age on the municipalities territory in order to defend the shire against pirates from the 16th up to the 18th century. The mountain is the Aregume, and its entrances are the gates to the silos, having been carved out from the rock in order to preserve the wheat. These silos gave the municipality its name.

The previous arms were granted on October 9, 1957.
