LUANDA
(formerly SÃO PAULO DA ASSUNÇÃO DE LUANDA)

Province : Luanda

Arms of Luanda

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are an illustration of the full name of the city. In the dexter field is the Virgin Mary as portrayed in the Assumption; in the sinister field is St. Paul (with sword). Thus São Paulo da Assunção de Luanda (St. Paul of the Assumption of Luanda). The collar surrounding the shield is that of the Order of the Tower and Sword, which also surrounds the arms of Lisbon in Portugal.
