Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 5, 2002.
The sun is a canting element (Luz=light). The two figs represent agriculture as well as the long inhabitation of the area, as remnants of figs have been found in archaeological excavations. The base shows the Atlantoc Ocean and the importance of fisheries.
The previous arms were granted on February 21, 1997 and differ only in the crown.
