German In Silber ein rotes Mühlrad.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The oldest seal of the city dates from the late 13th century and already shows the canting water mill wheel (Mühle=mill). All later seals have shown the wheel. The original seal showed 17 blades on the wheel, but already in the middle of the 14th century the number was reduced to 8. The arms were officially granted in 1507 by Leonhard von Keutschach, Archbishop of Salzburg, as the city was part of the State of Salzburg until 1803. After the transfer to Bayern, the arms were sometimes shown as a blue wheel in silver, the colours of Bayern, instead of the red and silver of Salzburg. Officially the colours never changed.
