Origin/meaning :
The arms are based on the old colonial arms, with additions of a wreath and some symbol (I have no idea what) in the base.

Colonial arms
The colonial arms were adopted on September 26, 1930 and are shown below.

The arms show the two volcanoes Wilis and Lawu. The Madiun river is shown as a wavy bar. The green part symbolises the green fields in and near the city. The motto Montes prosperitatem vident (The mountains are witness to my prosperity) and the supporters were not taken in the new arms of the city.
