Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on June 27, 2003.
The striped lion is taken from the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Hessen and symbolizes the Empress Maria Alexandrovna of Hessen, wife of Czar Alexander II. The star in the paws of the lion symbolizes that the village Shorshely near Mariinsky Posad is the birthplace of the cosmonaut Andrian Nikolayev.
The arms can be used with and without the arms of the Chuvash Republic.
