State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Recklinghausen

Wappen von Marl (Recklinghausen)/Arms (crest) of Marl (Recklinghausen)
Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 20, 1936.

The arms show in the chief the cross of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged until 1802. The lower right quarter shows a barrel-iron, derived from the arms of the Lords of Loe, who owned a castle near the town from the 14th-until 17th century.

The lower left half shows two miner's tool, symbols for the importance of mining in the development of the city.
