Wappen von Marl (Recklinghausen)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1936 and shows in the chief the cross of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged until 1802. The lower right quarter shows a hook, derived from the arms of the Lords of Loe, who owned a castle in the town. The lower left half shows two miner's tool, symbols for the importance of mining in the development of the city.
