Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 21, 1923.

The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Meldert, known since the 12^th century. The arms are also mentioned in the Armorial Gelre from the early 14^th century. The arms are also used on the seals of the local council in the 13th and 14th centuries.
