Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on January 12, 1988.

This local authority is situated near Marquard in the eastern Free State. This is an area of distinctive conical sandstone koppies or hills with flat tops, to which the design of the chief alludes. Silhouetted against these koppies are broad barbs which are similar in form to the traditional Basotho homes found in that area, another one of which adorns the mural crown.

The name is de rived from the Afrikaans "Mooi man" , an attractive or pleasant man, and may thus be translated as "a pleasant place (to live)" .
