All seals of the town, dating from 1511 until the late 19<sup>th</sup> century show the village sign of Muggensturm in or without a shield. It is described as a wagon-plug. In 1900 the municipality proposed to add a rose, taken from the arms of the Lords of Eberstein. The village historically belonged to the county Eberstein.
