NIEDER-OLM

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Mainz-Bingen (until 1969 Mainz)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Nieder-Olm

Wappen von Nieder-Olm/Arms (crest) of Nieder-Olm
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ??

The arms show in the upper half a cross and in the lower the wheel of the State of Mainz. The village historically belonged to the State of Mainz until 1803. The meaning of the cross is not clear; the oldest seal (known from 1519) shows the above cross, whereas later seals show a different cross (see below). It has been stated that the cross may have been the symbol of the local patron siant, St. George. The colours are those of the State of Mainz.

In 1956 the arms shown below were proposed, based on the second seal from 1710, which was also used in later documents, including the colours. The town, however, decided on the oldest version with the wheel in the proper colour, which meant the opposite colours as in the design of 1956.
