NO 208 SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE

History: Raised at St Pol in October 1916 as No 8 Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service. Renumbered No 208 upon creation of the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918.

Motto: Vigilant

Origin/meaning

The Sphinx alludes to the Motto and also to Egypt where the Squadron saw much service from 1920 and onwards. The badge was granted in October 1937.
