History: Formed at Couderkerque in March 1918 as No 14 Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service. Becoming on 1 April 1918 No 214 Squadron, Royal Air Force.
Title: Federated Malay States.

Motto: Ultor in umbris = Avenging in the shadows.
Origin/meaning
The Nightjar is a Bird active at Night, thus symbolising the activities of the Squadron. The badge was granted in March 1938.
