NO 880 SQUADRON, ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE

Coat of arms (crest) of No 880 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force

(Badge)
Coat of arms (crest) of No 880 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force

(Standard)

Official blazon
English Or, in base three barulets undy azure and issuing there from a demi-opinicus sable armed and languaged gules and holding in the dexter paw a maple leaf of the last.

Motto: Pepérer et détruire.

Origin/meaning

The Opinicus is like the Griffin a combination of an Eagle and a Lion, but with a short tail like that of a Bear. It suggests that the Squadron has the Strength of a Lion and the Aerial Agility of an Eagle. The Maple alludes to Canada. The Motto translates as "To seek out the foe and to destroy him".
