NO 885 SQUADRON, FAA

History: First formed in 1941 at Royal Naval Air Station Dekheila (HMS Grebe) Alexandria, Egypt as a Fighter Squadron. Reformed after D-Day in June 1944 and served in HMS Ruler with Grumman Hellcats until 1945.

English Blue; issuant from water barry engrailed of four white and blue flmes proper therein a cat emergent affronty black.

Motto: Clerrime.

Origin/meaning

The Badge allude to the Grumman Hellcat Aircraft flown by the Squadron. The Latin motto translates as "Very quickly". The Badge was approved on 15 January 1945.
