The arms were officially adopted on December 21, 1992.
 
The arms show the griffin of Pommerania, holding a small shield with the letters NW and a wheatear. The latter, together with the green field, refers to the agricultural character of the municipality. The blue bar refers to the Kisewa river.
 
The arms are the result of a local competition. Some of the designs are shown below:
