OBERPFALZ

State : Bayern

Oberpfalz.jpg

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms combine the arms of the Pfalz with the two crossed keys of the city and State of Regensburg. The arms of the Pfalz are a combination of the historical lion and the diamonds of the Wittelsbach family, Dukes of Bayern and Princes of the Pfalz.

The arms of the Kreis Oberpfalz, which existed until 1945 were rather different:

These arms show a blue lion, the origin thereof I do not know.
