Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 29, 1845 and again on June 3, 1985.

The arms appeared for the first time in the first half of the 16th century and were supposedly the arms of the Lords of Oostkamp. However, the Gruuthuuse family, Lords of Oostkamp at the time, used completely different arms. In rolls of arms in 1560 and 1562 the above arms were again mentioned. The arms appear on the local seal on 1694.

On November 10, 1819 the village received the arms below, of which the meaning and origin are not known. In 1845 the village adopted the more historical arms.
