Oorsprong/verklaring

De sluis is een sprekend element (de sluis dateert uit 1562), de walvis, kompasroos en de harpoenen slaan op de vroeger hier zo belangrijke walvisvaart.

(en) The arms are canting, the name means old-lock, hence the lock-doors. The whale, harpoons and compass refer to the former importance of whaling.
