Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 16, 1987.

Petsana, the Sesotho word for a filly, takes its name from a freak filly with a singly eye in the middle of its forehead , which was born in the area many years ago, the story of which has passed into local folklore. In a predominantly Basotho area, Petsana is unusual in also having a significant number of Zulus among its residents. These two tribal groups are represented respectively by the Basotho hats and Zulu shield on the chief.

The star which adorns the mural crown is taken from the arms of the adjacent town of Reitz.
