Origin/meaning

The shield shows the arms of the Abbey. The inescutcheon represents the Abbot. The cross is a Greek-cross and refers the affinity of the Abbot with the Eastern Catholic Churches. The colours are taken again from the Abbey arms, but are also (partly) the colours of Byzantium (red) and Ukraine (blue and gold). The Abbot was pastor for the Ukrainian-Greek Catholic Church in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The escarbuncle of the main shield also indicates that the Abbot wants to see unity in all directions of the world. This is also referred in the motto, meaning 'Let all be one'.
