Origin/meaning

The Placer County seal was adopted by the Placer County Board of Supervisors in 1959.

On the left side of the seal, a shovel and pick symbolize the Gold Rush. A grove of fruit trees represents the agriculture of the county. On the right side of the seal, mountains and pine trees represent the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The steam locomotive and railroad tracks in the center of the seal represent the Transcontinental Railroad.
