The arms combine the arms of two families that historically ruled the village. The lion is taken from the Lords of Poeke from the 14th century and is known from seals from Oelars van Poeke (1294), Olivier van Poeke (1339) and Jan van Poeke (1395).
 
The eagle is taken from the arms of the Preud'homme d'Hailly family, Viscounts of Nieuwpoort and Lords of Poeke from, 1562-1792.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 3, 1817.

The arms combine the arms of two families that historically ruled the village. The lion is taken from the Lords of Poeke from the 14th century and is known from seals from Oelars van Poeke (1294), Olivier van Poeke (1339) and Jan van Poeke (1395).
